The team built the experience as a vertical slice

Halo 5: Guardians offers gamers two very different perspectives with the newly revealed Enemy Lines mission designed to focus on Fireteam Osiris as it assaults Sanghelios in order to get access to a Forerunner constructor.

On Halo Waypoint, a number of developers from 343 Industries offer an insight into how the sequence was created and the kind of experiences gamers will be able to enjoy when they control one of the four involved characters.

TJ Perillo, the Sanghelios world lead, states, "We envisioned this mission as a kind of rollicking escapade - high adventure, rife with opportunities for swashbuckling derring-do: narrow escapes, aerial boarding maneuvers, jungle gym battlefields - challenges where bravado and flamboyance are called for and rewarded."

The Temple Grounds that players will be able to explore served as a testing ground for a lot of the new combat abilities for the Spartans and the results can be seen in other areas in Halo 5: Guardians.

343 Industries is also aiming for a mix between gameplay and spectacle for Enemy Lines, underlined by the presence of the massive new Karaken platform.

Chris French, senior design, says that the mission was also a great way to test the Artificial Intelligence that powers enemies in the shooter, making sure that they are challenging without becoming overwhelming.

Halo 5: Guardians has an ambitious story

Juancarlos Larrea, the lead vignette animator, and Nicholas Bell, the lead world artist, deliver more details on the way the Kraken was created and how they aimed to make Sanghelios one of the most visually striking location in the universe of the series.

343 Industries also worked hard to make sure that the characters in both Fireteam Osiris and Blue Team interact with each other in plenty of ways that suggest both their camaraderie and their past histories.

Halo 5: Guardians is also making big changes to the multiplayer side of the series, with Spartans gaining access to a range of new powers that will make the entire experience more dynamic.

Warzone is a mode which mixes Player versus Player and Player versus Environment mechanics, while Arena is offered for more competitive players.

Capture the Flag is also part of the initial mix, while Big Team Battle is being added once the shooter is out.

Halo 5: Guardians will be offered on October 27 on the Xbox One.
