Google's Android One isn't among the top projects at the company, but that doesn't mean that it could be easily dismissed. It offers mid-range devices with stock Android, but they surely can't compare with Nexus handsets. The Mountain View giant has partnered with many smartphone manufacturers to offer Android One, and the latest is Sharp. Now we know that Sharp 507SH will be launching in Japan.

Google's Android One project is mainly available in developing countries in Asia and Europe, but the company has recently decided to expand the availability to Japan. It partnered with Sharp and Y! Mobile to offer Android One on Sharp 507SH. The launch date is quite unclear at this point, but since Google has made an official announcement, it shouldn't be long now.

The smartphone will come with a 5-inch IGZO LCD display, Snapdragon 617 processor, 16GB of internal memory, and just 2GB of RAM. It's clearly a mid-range device, but the rear camera has a satisfactory capacity of 13MP, with the front unit featuring 5MP.

It also comes with LTE, Bluetooth 4.2, and a 3,010mAh battery. The phone is also IPX5, IPX8, and IP5X certified water and dust-resistant.

The smartphone runs Android Marshmallow 6.0.1

The smartphone comes with Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 out of the box, and it will surely receive updates to Android Nougat 7.0 later this year. In fact, these are the main advantage of Android One handsets: stock Android and a lower price compared to Nexus devices.

Android One phones lack extensive vendor modifications that many vendors apply, especially when it comes to handsets offered by mobile carriers. In addition, Android One devices receive security and system updates directly from Google, which reach them much faster compared to any other smartphones.

Turkey was the first European country to receive Android One. Since then, the device has been made available to a number of other countries on the continent, including Spain and Portugal.
