As expected, Google has just kicked off the rollout of Android 7.1.1 Nougat update for a couple of Nexus and Pixel devices. In addition, the search giant published the factory images and OTA files for compatible devices for those who can't wait for the update to arrive on their phones.

So, the update is now pushed to the following devices: Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus 6, Nexus 9, Nexus Player, Pixel C, and General Mobile 4G (Android One), Pixel and Pixel XL.

Although the rollout starts today, Google states that it will reach all eligible devices over the next several weeks, but you can download the factory images if you don't want to wait that long.

It's also worth mentioning that all compatible devices enrolled in the Android Beta Program will receive the update as well.

As far as the changes go, Google has confirmed that Android 7.1.1 Nougat is an incremental update that builds on the features that were already available on the Pixel and Pixel XL, which ship with Android 7.1 Nougat right out of the box.

Among the new features included in the update, it's worth noting the new app shortcuts, round icon resources, and image keyboard support.

If you don't own a Nexus or Pixel device, Google announces that it's also been working with other handset makers to bring the Android 7.1.1 Nougat update to other smartphones and tablets in the coming months. However, it's highly unlikely that it will happen until next year.

According to Google, the open bugs logged against Developer Preview builds will be closed soon, but users are advised to continue to provide feedback. You can always file a new issue report against Android 7.1 in the AOSP issue tracker.

Don't forget that all factory images and OTA files for the devices mentioned earlier have been released by Google and are now available for download, so you don't have to wait for the update to arrive on your phone.
