The update brings lots of Unicode 8 emoji and small tweaks

As expected, Google has finally released the bunch of new emoji it has been teasing for quite a while now. As part of the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update, the new Unicode 8 emoji are now available to all those who own a compatible Nexus smartphone or tablet.

Along with the huge amount of new emoji, Google also added some small tweaks and, more importantly, the DnD (Do Not Disturb) mode. And yes, the long-awaited taco emoji is on the list of new additions as well.

However, it appears that the multi-racial emoji added to the iPhone and iPad via iOS 9.1 is not part of this update yet, so do not try looking for it because you won't find it.

As mentioned earlier, the update is only available for Nexus phones and tablets, but Google confirmed that it shared Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with OEM partners, including Samsung, Motorola and HTC.

Unfortunately, there's no telling when these new improvements will be coming to Samsung Galaxy, HTC One or Motorola smartphones since it's not a mandatory update.

"Until Next Alarm" option makes a comeback

But let's take a look at some of the changes that have been included in this update. First of all, the Back and Home navigation buttons will no longer be centered and are now positioned on the left-hand side of the display's base.

The DnD “Until Next Alarm” option had been implemented once again after Google removed it not long ago when it released Android 6.0 Marshmallow. This particular option will allow users to switch between silent and priority notifications much easier.

If the update hasn't yet hit your Nexus device, you will be pleased to know that Google has already released the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow factory images for everyone to download.

They are now available for the following smartphones and tablets: Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 7 (2013), Nexus 9, and Nexus Player.
