Google has just teased new emojis for the Nexus family. The company's SVP of Android and Chrome, Hiroshi Lockheimer, has just confirmed that new emojis will be coming to Nexus smartphones and tablets as early as next week.

In addition to the new emojis, Google also plans to introduce new fonts and a brand-new keyboard. All these new additions will be included in next week's update that should be available for download as a system image.

Lockheimer also revealed three of the emojis that will be available to Nexus users starting next week, and none of them looks kinky. A unicorn, a lion and a crab will be among the new emojis released by Google in the coming days.

The December security patch might be delivered in the update too

All three emojis are part of the Unicode 8 release (hence the Unicorn emoji teased in the tweet). If you want to know what other emojis Google will be included in the next update for Nexus devices, here is the complete list.

Keep in mind that you will need to click on each of the names on the list if you want to see their graphical representation. Oh, and a taco emoji will be included as well.

Also, Google's official confirmed that the fonts and all the necessary technical details related to these emojis and everything else included in this update would be shared with OEMs, so they can include them in their updates, too.

This means that while the emojis will be initially released on Nexus smartphones, third-party Android OEMs will be able to make them available to their customers as well.

Obviously, it remains to be seen how many of these Android OEMs will be delivering the new features via software updates, and how many will choose to ignore it completely.
