Since Google debuted Android One program, there haven't been many praises from customers, especially that the search giant delayed the release of major Android updates for these smartphones.

Android One was a bit of a flop in emerging markets like India, but Google seems determined to continue with the project, so we will see more smartphones launched in the next months.

We reported over the weekend that Lava Pixel V1, one of the first Android One smartphones launched in India, had just received Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow arrived on many Nexus devices several weeks ago, but Google was a bit slower in delivering the update to Android One smartphones.

Now reports are coming from the Philippines that Android One phones are eligible for a much newer update: Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.

One of the first smartphones to receive the update is the Cherry Mobile Android G1, but we expect more Android One devices to be upgraded to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow in the coming days.

Hopefully, it won't take Google several more weeks to upgrade all Android One handsets to this new version of Android.

No official changelog available yet

Famous HTC insider @LlabTooFeR claimed a few days ago the Android 6.0.1 and 6.1 were under internal testing at Google and that they would be released soon.

According to him, Android 6.0.1 should be released “in next few months” while Android 6.1 Marshmallow won't be available until next year.

Apparently, Google has already kicked off the rollout of Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow to Android One devices. The update has about 87MB in size, but there's no changelog available for the moment.

The strange thing is that the update is dated December 1, so it's unclear whether or not Google will continue the rollout after this date or Android One smartphone owners should expect Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow on their devices beginning this week.
