After revamping its Google News desktop website, Google today started rolling out a new major update to the Google Photos for iOS and Android devices with some great enhancements that the search giant announced at Google I/O.

Google knows that in our modern, busy lives, we are often pulled in many different directions and don't always have time to share the photos we capture with our friends and family, and they usually end up being forgotten in the cloud storage offered by Google via their awesome Google Photos app for iOS and Android.

Therefore, today they announced the availability of a new version of the application for both supported mobile platforms to help us share more of those meaningful moments in our life by implementing two new features that were recently announced at Google I/O, specifically suggested sharing and shared libraries.

"Suggested sharing uses machine learning to automatically identify photos and suggest recipients, making sharing as simple as a single tap. With shared libraries, sending and receiving photos with one person is effortless—you can automatically share your full photo library or customize just what you want to share," says James Gallagher, Google Photos Director.

Introducing suggested sharing and shared libraries

The new Google Photos update for iOS and Android will add personal suggestions at the top of the Sharing tab, which will be based on your sharing habits, as well as the people that Google Photos recognizes in the photos. Of course, you'll be able to control this feature and change the suggested recipients or photos before sending.

Additionally, Google implemented a new functionality that notifies the friends or family members that were with you when the respective photos were taken, and they also use Google Photos, to add their photos to the shared album, too. When new photos are added by others, Google Photos will send you a notification as well.

As for the second major feature that Google added to the latest Google Photos update, namely shared libraries, the company explains that it can be used to share all your photos with a special person in your life. Photos can be shared with anyone, via an email address, so they don't even have to use Google Photos.

The new shared libraries allows users to share their entire photo collection or just specific photos. In the latter case, when new photos with the same tag are taken, they will be automatically shared to the same person, which will be notified when new photos arrive, which are searchable.
