To make Google News easier to navigate and more accessible to everyone, Google today announced that it redesigned the desktop website to give users more control over what they read, with various perspectives over a wide range of news, and a dedicated "Fact Check" block.

The new Google News design focuses on readability by adopting a card format for news to make it easier to browser and identify the related articles of a story, a new layout that shows the publisher's name and article's labels while keeping the view unchanged on the page as you explore similar topics.

Google says that it dedicated the left navigation column to all the sections that you customize in your Google's account settings, so you can have faster access to the news you want to read. But they didn't stop there, as a new navigation bar for "Headlines," "Local" and "For You" was added at the top of the Google News page.

"Upon signing in, you can personalize the "Local" and "For You" tabs. In "Local," you can track stories from any part of the world that you care about—from your hometown to where you do business to where you went to school," says Google. "In "For You," you can pinpoint niche interests and create your own mini news feed."

Story Cards now offer different perspectives on a story

To offer users more control over what they read, Google has revamped the Story Cards with varying perspectives on an article so that you can read different points of view that could provide more context on the topic. Additionally, there's now a "Full Coverage" page that lets users engage themselves in coverage about a story.

Last but not least, Google News now offers a dedicated 'Fact Check' block which is located on the right column of "Headlines" that display the top fact-checked stories that have been recently published. For now, this feature will only be available in the U.S.. The settings and videos were improved as well with this update which Google says that it is rolling out globally in the coming days.
