Maps is certainly one of Google’s most popular applications, used by millions to find directions to their next destination, search for nearby places or even share their location with friends in real time. Google is now bringing a new feature to its Maps app on Android.

Google Maps can now remember route preferences when searching for directions to a certain destination, as a report reveals. Maps remembers previously set preferences, like tolls, highways or ferries and automatically adjusts the new route in order to avoid or include them on the way.

The new feature appears to be already live for multiple users, as they can now set a route and include their preferences automatically. Previously, when setting a new destination, users had to pick from including highways, tolls or ferries.

Preferences can be disabled under Route options

This action had to be taken every time users picked a destination and before they launched the navigation mode. Google Maps used to pick the fastest route to a certain place, while also providing some suggestions of alternative roads that could be taken.

The new feature can be disabled under Route options, in case certain users want to adjust preferences whenever they pick a new destination, although the new tool does make it faster to pick a route and enter navigation mode.

Recently, Google introduced a new and exciting new feature for Maps users, one that allows for sharing their real-time location with friends and family. In addition, users can send their estimated time of arrival and have friends view their location on the map, while they’re heading to a certain destination.

Google+ had a similar feature that let users send their location to friends, but Google decided to disable it and offer it on Maps instead. Last month, Google Maps saw a design change, which aimed to improve timeline access for users and bring a new dropdown toggle, aside from a padlock icon.
