Many minor UI tweaks have been implemented too

Google's Contacts application has just been updated with a set of new features and improvements meant to attract more users. With more than 10 million downloads in the Google Play store, Contacts is surely one of Google's popular apps, but it's not without flaws.

Many Android fans have decided to use other contacts apps since Google's doesn't offer too many options when it comes to functionality and customization. The new version hopes to solve some of these issues and appeal to even more Android users.

As mentioned earlier, Google Contacts version 1.6 has just been pushed to the Play store and it brings lots of improvements with it. There's a new Suggestions screen, a new icon, as well as lots of UI tweaks.

But let's start with the new Suggestions screen, which is supposed to check all your contacts for duplicates or linkages.

Import and export features have been separated

Google claims the new feature does exactly what the Duplicates screen did in the previous versions, but Suggestions adds the ability to suggest new contacts based on call history.

For example, if you call a person who's not on your contacts list numerous times, the application will suggest adding that person to Contacts at some point.

Furthermore, there's a new icon available in Contacts 1.6. Unlike the previous icon, the new one is rounded and dark blue. The new change is important for those who treasure iconography above all else.

Last but not least, a couple of minor UI tweaks have been implemented, most of them in the import/export contact feature. Basically, Google has decided to separate import and export features rather than keeping them together.

A slew of other minor changes have been added, but they're not that visible or worth mentioning, so let's just leave it at that. Contacts 1.6 is available for free via Google Play store, so you can give it a try if you haven't already.
