14 DAY TRIAL // Although Google has already released the Android 7.1.1 Nougat update for all Nexus and Pixel devices, customers who own the Nexus 6 were not very lucky.
Apparently, a last minute issue prevented Google from pushing the Android 7.1.1 Nougat update for this particular device. Even worse is that the issue can't be fixed by the end of the year, so Nexus 6 owners will have to wait until next month to upgrade to the new OS version.
Google has just announced why it had to delay the release of the update and when it thinks it will be available for download. You can read below Google's full statement concerning Android 7.1.1 Nougat for Nexus 6:
“Unfortunately, we found a last minute bug that was specific to the Nexus 6, which has caused the delay of the 7.1.1 OTA rollout. We've since fixed the issue and will be rolling out an update in early January.”
Android 7.1.1 Nougat brings some Pixel-related new features and improvements, but also completely new ones that weren't available on any Android device.
Among the Pixel-related new features and enhancements that Nexus 6 owners will benefit from after upgrading to Android 7.1.1 Nougat, there's the Pixel Launcher that allows users to swipe up for all apps, the new Search Box, as well as the date and weather header on the homescreen.
Google Assistant, unlimited original quality photo/video backup to Google Photos, Smart Storage, Phone/Chat support, and quick switch adapter for wired setup from Android or iPhone are other Pixel-related features that will be enabled on the Nexus 6.
Some touch/display performance improvements will be added too, along with Daydream VR mode and manual storage manager.
Lots of developer features are part of the Android 7.1.1 Nougat update too, such as app shortcuts/shortcut manager APIs, circular app icons support, keyboard image insertion, fingerprint sensor gesture to open/close notification shade and more.
