After being delayed about a month to make room for the launch of The Last of Us Part II, Sucker Punch's Ghost of Tsushima received an impressive 18+ minutes gameplay trailer that showcases some of the most important aspects of the game.

During PlayStation's State of Play aired yesterday, developer Sucker Punch explained some of the game's combat mechanics, character customization, and exploration. The extended trailer with developer commentary is available for your viewing pleasure in 4K quality.

Sucker Punch's creative director Nate Fox says in the video that in Ghost of Tsushima players will explore the enormous landscape of medieval Japan, a clear departure from the studio that gave us the critically-acclaimed Infamous franchise where you would explore your powers for the most part.

Combat in Ghost of Tsushima is quick, brutal, and elegant at the same time. There seem to be different fight styles, each with their unique stances. While in samurai gear, the protagonist hacks and slashes enemies with sudden, one-hit moves. Switching to ghost mode, the main character turns into a ninja with assassination skills.

Ghost of Tsushima seems to have borrowed a lot from other franchises like Assassin's Creed and The Witcher, but the folks at Sucker Punch have added a twist to each of these gameplay mechanics to make them their own.

The bottom line is Ghost of Tsushima shapes up to be an epic game. The amount of exploration that you can immerse into and the smooth combat seem to turn it into a GOTY contender. Well, it would have been most certainly GOTY if not for the other two major releases coming this year: The Last of Us Part II and Cyberpunk 2077.

Ghost of Tsushima will be exclusively launched on PlayStation 4 on July 17. Although we would have liked to see the game on the PlayStation 5 as well, Sucker Punch has yet to announce plans for such an endeavor.
