14 DAY TRIAL // Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale have settled their divorce without a negative word about the two leaking to the press. The two were married for 13 years before filing the separation papers this summer, and didn’t have a prenup, so by California law, every penny they made during their time together would be divided in 2.
This prompted reports that the divorce case will be a prolonged and particularly nasty one because Gwen’s worth was estimated at $120 million (€108.6 million), while Gavin’s at $20 million (€18.1 million). She would end up losing half of her money, it was said.
Gavin didn’t go for Gwen’s money
As it turns out, there is still some decency in showbiz, after all. Even though Gavin was legally entitled to half of what Gwen made during their marriage (and she to his, though it was considerably less), he didn’t do it, TMZ says.
Insiders tell the publication that money was never an issue for them, in the sense that they didn’t spend their post-divorce days fighting over who got what. When the time came to settle on financial and custodial matters, they made sure they put their children first and were mature when discussing money.
At the end of the negotiations, Gavin walked away with less than 50% of the community property, the report says, adding that this probably happened because both wanted the proceedings to go quicker.
“Gwen and Gavin will get joint custody with their 3 children. We’re told the agreement provides a 50/50 split in physical custody, but we’re told Gavin will actually have the kids for the majority of time because of Gwen’s touring schedule,” the report says.
The divorce will probably be finalized by the end of the year.
An amicable split, at least in appearances
Shortly after the separation announcement, there was some speculation on what might have gone wrong to make one of the most solid couples in showbiz want to call it quits.
There was some talk of cheating (on his part), and also of how her being a workaholic ruined the marriage because she was never around much. Eventually, as these 2 showed no signs of harsh feelings towards each other, the rumors died down.
With this quick settlement, Gwen and Gavin prove that, at least from the outside, there can be such a thing as an amicable split, even in showbiz, where egos fly high and there are millions of dollars at stake.
