It lacks GPS but it could recover with the price

Fitbit's new smartwatch is called Versa, and it’s designed to appeal to the broader market, or at least this is what the rumor is.

Some information about a new Fitbit watch has been available for some time now, and it looks that we are finally getting a name and that's Versa. The company's habit of keeping things a secret is not a healthy one since we’re now living in a much faster and dismissal society.

Unless you’re Apple, you just can’t release something to the public and hope for the best. Fitbit seems to have zero interest in promoting the new device, which feels like it would be the right thing to do. In fact, given the lukewarm success of their Fitbit Ionic model, they should really take the initiative.

Versa might be a watch for everyone

Let’s get one thing straight. While the Fitbit Ionic is a pretty nice watch, it’s not for everyone. With a price point of $300, it’s just $30 cheaper than the latest Apple Watch 3 Series. It also features a pretty skimpy software collection and the OS being used doesn’t seem to invite developers.

A new and cheaper Fitbit watch would be a much better item to sell, and success of the new Versa would mean a breath of fresh air for the company. The information about the upcoming Versa was shared on Twitter by famous serial leakster Evan Blass, so we have no reason to doubt it.

So, what do we know about Fitbit Versa? Besides the fact that it’s going to be cheaper, we also know that it’s going to be a little bit smaller, with the same sensors, and water resistant. The only two exceptions are the GPS sensor, which will be missing, and the selection of bands and colors, which is much more extensive.

In any case, it looks like the chatter about a new Fitbit device is increasing, so we might know more about it very soon.
