Final Fantasy XV is one of the biggest video game launches of the year and with an official announcement about the date when it will be launched coming later in the day, a leaked trailer for the title has appeared, showing off one piece of the narrative.

The video, which is apparently a Chinese ad that will also have Western versions, shows the player engaging with a dream that main character Noctis is having, which seems designed to provide clues about his destiny and the story that the game will tell.

A younger version of the protagonist who is following Carbuncle, a classic summon from the world of Final Fantasy.

The video will probably be taken down as the team at Square Enix is getting ready to hold a massive event with many guests and developer appearances that will come with official announcements, which are coming starting at 7 PM Pacific Time.

During the Uncovered event, gamers will get more information about the world of the game and the mechanics, but also information about the launch date and, presumably, about bundles and other offers associated with it.

Final Fantasy XV will redefine the franchise

The story of Noctis is linked to the struggle between his own kingdom, Lucis, which has developed into a magic-using society because it has access to an ancient crystal, and the empire of Niflheim, which is using technology to dominate the rest of the world.

The universe in which Final Fantasy XV is set, designed to be somewhat similar to Earth, also features characters that have been through near-death experiences and now have access to special powers and are down as the Oracles, able to talk to gods among others.

Square Enix has said that it wants to deliver an epic and sweeping story but is also interesting in streamlining the traditional mechanics of the JRPG genre.

The Active Cross Battle system will allow gamers to directly use controller buttons to make their character acts, and other teammates will join battles based on interactions and other choices, with a cover system also involved.

The developers are also promising that there will be no transitions between the world exploration and the battle sequences and that the variety of the environments will be impressive.

Final Fantasy XV is created using the Luminous engine and will be offered on the Xbox One from Microsoft as well as on the PlayStation 4 from Sony.
