Recently, we reported that Qualcomm would provide details about the new Snapdragon 835 SoC during CES 2017. However, the CES presentation slides leaked yesterday and new details surfaced today, revealing specs of the new chipset.

The chipset will power this year’s high-end smartphones, like the new ASUS ZenFone, LG G6, and Samsung Galaxy S8.

Qualcomm will showcase the Snapdragon 835 SoC on January 6 during CES 2017, but new details about the chipset were revealed by @evleaks and the report contains key information about it.

The chipset will use a 10nm design with over 3 billion transistors and will be 30% smaller and 27% faster than its predecessor. Snapdragon 835 will also be more power-efficient than other Snapdragon processors, like the SD 820. This will allow smartphone manufacturers to make their phones thinner and incorporate larger batteries.

Snapdragon 835 is designed to improve battery consumption

Qualcomm has brought improvements to charging, battery life, camera capabilities, as well as security. The presentation provides some details about the battery life for the new chipset, saying that it would last for an entire day of talk time, 5 days of music playback, and even seven hours or 4k video streaming.

Quick Charge 4 provides five hours of battery life for five minutes of charging. The values were probably taken from a test device and the actual battery life might vary depending on the phone’s specs and OS.

Moreover, Qualcomm designed the Snapdragon 835 to meet VR demands with strict thermal and power constraints. The chipset provides 25% faster 3D graphics rendering and 60 times more display colors compared to the Snapdragon 820. The chipset will also support scene and object-based audio. Snapdragon 835 comes with improved motion tracking and a 20% reduction in motion-to-photon latency.

Qualcomm has incorporated a new generation of 4K video stabilization and support for Dual Photodiode, as well as enhanced hybrid auto-focus. In addition, Snapdragon 835 will come with gigabit download speeds and Haven Security Platform with three layers of security.
