The development team at Bungie is announcing that the Refer-a-Friend system is now live for Destiny, allowing veteran gamers to take newcomers under their wing to show them the most important elements of the social shooter and make sure that they pick up the core mechanics.

The new feature is designed to make sure that both of the players engaged receive advantages and get access to some solid rewards.

To use Refer-a-Friend, both gamers will have to own Destiny on either the Xbox One or the PlayStation 4, and they need to both have The Taken King expansion bought and installed.

The Link of Friendship will deliver more experience to those involved, allowing the new players to gain levels faster and see how their Guardian can develop to tackle the kinds of challenges that the social shooter can deliver.

A special A Tale of Two Guardians set of missions is offered for those who create a link, allowing them to experience the most important modes of the title.

The Refer-a-Friend will introduce specific team emotes, a new emblem and shader as well as a special Sparrow vehicle and three legendary swords that the two involved gamers will be able to get access to.

The Frequently Asked Questions section of the official site states, "To initiate an in-game Link, players must link to each other through Bungie.net. Refer-a-Friend features are not currently available in the Destiny Companion App."

The weird thing about the feature is that Veteran status is offered to gamers when they first play The Taken King for Destiny, which means that some rather inexperienced gamers might qualify for it and might disappoint those they try to mentor.

Bungie also says that forum threads are the best way to find a newcomer to play with, which might lead to a lot of activity and spam in the coming weeks.

The rewards linked to Refer-a-Friend for Destiny will not be offered anywhere else in the social shooter.

Holiday events will be launched in December

The development team at Bungie is already talking about the changes that it plans to make to Destiny in the coming month.

They are planning to deliver a big new set of balance changes for the weapons, designed to convince players to use a wider variety of hardware and to no longer rely on the powerful pulse rifles for all challenges.

The company says that it has listened to feedback from the community and that they also plan to eliminate some bugs and glitches.

When it comes to exotics, the studio will introduce two new options for gamers and will also bring back some of the most interesting items from the first year of the title's life, all with updated stats.

The December update for Destiny will also introduce a set of events that are set to celebrate the winter holidays, although their exact nature has not yet been revealed.

Given how important microtransactions have become in the game recently, it's highly likely that gamers will be able to pick up special emotes from the Eververse Trading Company.
