The development team at Bungie is at the moment running a relatively long maintenance period for its social shooter Destiny, but the studio wants to make it clear that it has no plans to introduce any sort of changes to the core mechanics of the experience.

The official Twitter account explains that it is currently only preparing the infrastructure that supports the video game in order to make sure that it will work well with future updates, no matter when they are actually launched.

Since the extensive six-hour-long maintenance period for Destiny that started at 8 AM Pacific Time was announced, fans have been speculating on the forums that the company is trying to implement a wide-ranging set of tweaks that would improve the game mechanics, especially the ones that have been added with House of Wolves.

Bungie has acknowledged that neither Prison of Elders nor Trials of Osiris are perfect and says that as more player feedback is gathered in the coming weeks, more hotfixes will be introduced for the social shooter.

Traditionally, the company has tried to keep downtimes short when delivering updates, trying to limit the extensive maintenance to once a few months.

The Taken King is coming to Destiny on September 15

The much-rumored new expansion has been officially confirmed during the E3 2015 show, and gamers who get it will be able to experience the return of Oryx, the father of Crota who is now looking to destroy those who took down his son.

Bungie says that there are plans to add a massive new dreadnought area to the social shooter, which will encourage gamers to explore to find more rewards and secrets.

The crucible side of Destiny will also get access to two new modes, and all the existing ones will be tweaked.

For the three core Guardian classes, the developers are seeking to introduce new subclasses that will add variety and will encourage players to have a variety of characters with different abilities and weapons loadouts.

The Taken King will be offered at the same time on all the platforms on which Destiny is running, but those who play in on PlayStation devices will be able to get some extra new content.
