Video game developer Bungie is announcing that it is planning to take its social shooter Destiny down for maintenance on Monday, June 22, starting at 8 AM Pacific Time, and it seems that gamers will be unable to access the experience for about 6 hours.

The official Twitter message from the studio mentions that the downtime might last for six hours, which might mean that there's also a possibility that it will be finished sooner.

Bungie is not offering a clear reason for the fact that Destiny is going offline, but the company does mention that future plans are involved.

It's very unlikely that the company already needs to perform maintenance for the social shooter in order to introduce changes to the infrastructure that will be linked to The Taken King.

This probably means that Bungie is getting ready to announce another major update for Destiny, which could be introduced before the end of the month.

During the week of E3 2015, the game received a small patch, labeled 1.2.0.3, which was designed to tweak the Prison of Elders experience based on feedback that gamers have delivered since House of Wolves was launched.

Destiny will add a major new location in The Taken King

The next expansion will focus on Oryx, a new character that returns to the solar system to kill those Guardians who ended the life of his son Crota.

Bungie has said that the main element of The Taken King is the dreadnought that the new villain is using, which is designed to offer a new take on the environments of the shooter, encouraging players to explore and seek new experiences.

The studio is also adding more strikes, new game modes, and a variety of new weapons and items that gamers can use to improve their Guardians.

The Taken King for Destiny is set to arrive on all platforms on September 15, and those who play on the PlayStation 4 will get access to some extra content.

Until then, more patches will be delivered for the social shooter to improve the overall experience, and the community should continue to offer feedback.
