YU is prepping its first flagship smartphone to date

A few days ago, we told you that Micromax’s subsidiary YU had started selling a version of its Yuphoria smartphone with stock Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box.

When it was initially launched, the phone shipped out with Cyanogen OS, but this version is no longer available, so naturally we had to wonder whether Yu and Cyanogen’s partnership was still holding or not.

We’ve seen the same scenario happen a few months back, when OnePlus and Cyanogen had partnered up for the OnePlus One smartphone, but soon afterwards the custom ROM maker announced it entered an exclusive partnership with Micromax in India, which meant OnePlus was cast out of the equation. So is this happening again?

Android Police reached out to Cyanogen to see what’s going on and they bring us good news. Apparently, the YU and Cyanogen partnership is still up and running despite the release of stock Android phones.

Cyanogen + YU still equals lots of love

The custom ROM maker is also happy to announce that Cyanogen OS 12.1 will be powering YU’s upcoming flagship, the Yutopia. This particular handset has been revealed a while back as the “world’s most powerful smartphone.”

The phone is expected to make a debut into the wild with a 5.2-inch display with either 1080p or 2K resolution (2,560 x 1,440 pixels) depending on the model you choose to buy. Breathing life from under the hood is a Snapdragon 810 processor in combination with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. There’s also a 3GB of RAM option for those who feel they don’t need as much.

Yutopia is also expected to take advantage of the services of a 21MP rear camera plus an 8MP front-facing one. So Cyanogen is finally getting on board the first premium device ever since the OnePlus One.

Cyanogen has also said they are looking to roll out the latest update for the Yureka / Yureka Plus very soon.

So as you can see, the marriage between Yu and Cyanogen appears to be in pretty good shape and the two are going to continue working together. So if you have set your eyes on the Yutopia smartphone, you can rest assured, it won’t ship out with stock Android (not that that’s bad in any way).
