14 DAY TRIAL // A few years ago, a Kickstarter project revealed a new phone that only offers basic functionality in a size that’s comparable to that of a credit card. Now it seems that pre-orders for the Light Phone have gone live.
The device works independently of your phone plan, but the phone’s software platform does allow you to make and receive calls using your current phone number. The Light Phone works with a 2G nano SIM card or customers can pay for a monthly service that costs $5 per month in the US.
Sadly, international users only have the option of using their own SIM card with the device, as services are offered only in the US. Customers who use the SIM should follow the steps for setting up dial contacts using the desktop app provided with the Light Phone.
There’s not much to be said about the device’s specs; it comes with a Qualcomm 8208 processor and an OLED display. It also has a micro USB port and its price is $150. The Light Phone is available in two colors, either Matte White or Matte Black, and it weighs just 38.5 grams.

The manufacturer markets the Light Phone as a small phone that removes distractions for users, but still keeps them reachable. The Light Phone only lets you place and receive calls, while there isn’t the option to send text messages, check your email or social networking accounts.
Its small size makes it easy to place in any pocket or even in your wallet, as an emergency phone for placing calls. The device comes with a power key and a keypad, while its battery is expected to provide 2-4 days of standby, while talk time reaches just 45-90 minutes.
