A Kickstarter campaign for the world’s smallest 4G smartphone already surpassed its pledged amount of $30,000 and reached 684 backers, while still having 34 days to go. The project involves building a mini-sized phone that runs Android 7.0 Nougat and supports 4G network.

Unihertz, the team behind the idea describes the smartphone as the “ultimate answer to any situation where using a heavy, expensive primary phone is inconvenient.” The phone’s main selling point is its size, but not in the way that we’ve gotten used to.

Smartphone display sizes are becoming increasingly bigger, and a good example of this is Samsung’s Galaxy S8+, which packs a 6.2-inch screen and was well received on the market. However, there are some users who prefer smaller smartphones, which is why manufacturers provide Mini versions of standard models.

But Unihertz has taken things even further by providing consumers with a small and easy-to-use secondary phone, one that even fits in the smallest pocket of your jeans.

Because of its size, it suits the needs of users in a number of situations when it would be uncomfortable to carry a bulky device with them or they would rather just leave it at home. The Jelly smartphone is available in two options, one that offers 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage and anoother providing consumers with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of memory.

The size of the phone didn’t stop developers from equipping it with a 2MP front camera and 8MP rear sensor, together with a quad-core 1.1GHz processor and a 2.45-inch LCD display. The device also comes with a gyroscope and a GPS sensor, together with Dual Nano SIM card support.

Up to 32GB of memory can be added using a microSD card. The battery capacity of the Jelly smartphone is also tiny at just 950mAh, but considering the phone’s size, we’re not surprised that it can run for up to 3 days without a charge, according to its listing.

Jelly is available in 3 colors, Pearl White, Sky Blue and Space Black. The phone launched today on Kickstarter and can be purchased for just $59. Jelly is actually the upgrade to another small phone that was launched two years ago and carried the retail name Posh Micro.
