During the same 20th Century Fox panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2015 that saw the premiere of the first “Deadpool” trailer, came the first look at “X-Men: Apocalypse,” also in trailer form. A low-quality version of the footage has leaked online and is available below.

It shows the film’s big villain, in the person of Apocalypse, played by Oscar Isaac. He is described as “perhaps the world’s first mutant” and he comes to remove all the mutants from under the leadership of their “blind leader,” Prof. Charles Xavier (James McAvoy), to build a new world from the ashes of the old one.

Director Bryan Singer introduced the footage by stressing that this was by no means the final cut of the trailer. It was just mostly raw footage, without visual effects, from the first 5 weeks of production, cut into the format of a trailer.

However, it was relevant for the film in that it captured the feel he was going for. It was like a “present” he had come up with for the fans, to offer them a taste of what was coming.

He also said that the film “takes place in 1983 [and] the world has now accepted mutants thanks to the great heroism of Raven, Mystique. Mutants are for the most part accepted and embraced by society. In some places, most places.”

Apocalypse wants to change all that, and apparently, he will be doing it by assuming control over their current leader, Prof. X.

“Apocalypse” will be out in May 2016 and will be the last time Jennifer Lawrence and Hugh Jackman (and probably Michael Fassbender and McAvoy as well) are seen in an “X-Men” movie.
