It seems that there is more to this Claptrap story

The problems and discussions between David Eddings (Claptrap’s voice) and Gearbox (through Randy Pitchford, CEO) have to take a weird turn. The actor accused the CEO of physical abuse.

Only yesterday we were writing about the conflict between David Eddings and Randy Pitchford. Some details about David’s departure from Gearbox were revealed, and Randy Pitchford went as far as calling him disgruntled. Apparently, David was unhappy that he wasn’t paid as an actor for the previous two games because he was a Gearbox employee at that time.

On the other hand, Gearbox claims he was offered double the regular payment in the industry for this job to reprise his role as Claptrap, but David refuses. Somewhere in the middle seems to be the truth and you can read more about it in our initial report.

Taking a dark turn

All of these revelations and going back and forth on Twitter seemed like the end of it, but today a tidbit of information was revealed that’s not in the same lines of dialogue.

David Eddings went on record to say that he actually would have agreed to retake the role for free, if Gearbox would agree to pay some back royalties and if Randy Pitchford would apologize for a certain incident.

It turns out that the incident in question took place back in 2017 when Gearbox’s CEO purposely assaulted him in the Marriott Marquis lobby, at GDC 2017. Needless to say that it’s a very big accusation.

Someone seems to have convinced Randy Pitchford not to say anything, which is probably a good thing for him. He’s not the type to shut up, but this time he’s not answering. In any case, not all publicity is good publicity, and all of these controversies don’t help Borderlands 3 in any shape or form.
