Let's hope this is the last time we're hearing about this

Borderlands 3 and Gearbox’s CEO Randy Pitchford are in the middle of a gratuitous controversy, days after the dust settled regarding another matter.

The plan was a simple one. Announce Borderlands 3, get the people hyped and entertained, and then launch the game to please everyone. There shouldn't be anymore more steps in between, but it seems that Randy Pitchford and Borderlands 3 keep landing in new and uncomfortable places.

Even with all the problems that seem to surround the game and the studio currently, the community is anxiously waiting for the game to come out. Short of announcing that Borderlands 3 is going to be a multiplayer-only game or some other ridiculous thing, the future of the franchise is safe.

Claptrap won’t be Claptrap

It’s difficult to argue the fact that Claptrap turned out to be one of the most memorable characters off all time, not just from Borderlands. So much so, that people will most likely remember him more than any other character.

Claptrap was voiced by David Eddings, who at the time of the previous games was a Gearbox employee. Apparently, he was paid as an employee only and not for his performance. David Eddings later left Gearbox, but he was offered payment for returning as Claptrap. He refused, saying that he wasn’t offered enough money. And that should have been the end of that.

For some reason, David Eddings mentioned on Twitter that “they should put the $12M payment from 2K in the Gearbox bank account instead.” This is a direct reference to a lawsuit that’s currently active, in which Gearbox’s CEO Randy Pitchford is accused of receiving a $12 million payment from 2K that he pocketed instead of sending it to the studio. Pitchford says that the accusation is ridiculous.

Randy Pitchford answered on Twitter regarding the David Eddings comments that he’s a bitter and disgruntled after he was terminated from Gearbox. The entire situation is a mess.

Claptrap’s voice was taken over by Jim Foronda who worked on numerous other games like Dragon Ball Z, Killing Floor, and many others.

Recently, Gearbox had to clarify what if the game will feature any type of microtransactions or virtual currency, after a debate started online following an article and the same Randy Pitchford.
