Cool doesn't always mean the best, but it's always fun

CES 2019 came and went, and it left us free to dream about new gadgets and hardware and to wonder about what's going to happen in the world of technology. Here are some of the most exciting new products that were presented to the public at CES 2019.

One of the constants at CES (Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas) is that companies are using this platform to announce stuff that they are working on, and it sometimes happens that some of those products don't even make it to the market.

For some reason, CES 2019 was a little bit different, and we got to see a lot more real technologies and devices, not just concepts that may or may not arrive sometime in the future. It's a good thing albeit a little bit overwhelming.

The new displays are a good example. Most of the stuff presented by big companies such as LG or Samsung are no longer considered concepts with no definite launch dates. We know that their new and innovative TVs are coming soon to the market.

Royole FlexPai

The world's first foldable smartphone was presented at CES 2019, and it's not from any of the well-known companies. The Royole FlexPai is foldable, like a book and it's weird. It comes with a 7.8-inch screen and a resolution of 1,920 x 1,440. It opens up into a full tablet, and the price is set at about $1,300.

It's not the best in any category, and most of the features would put into the middle-end range, but it's folding, and that's awesome.

Honor View 20

Huawei's Honor View 20 is not exactly new, and it wasn't announced at CES 2019, but this is where the new phone was displayed for the first time. And it's safe to say that it made quite an impression.

It features a 6.4-inch display and massive 48-megapixel camera (with AI improvements). The front camera has "just" 25 megapixels. Also, the display doesn't have a notch, just a small cutout for the camera, and the back plate has some fantastic colors.

AMBEO Soundbar

Surprisingly, an early prototype of this soundbar from AMBEO was initially present at CES 2019, but it was a lot less refined. Now, the AMBEO Soundbar is ready is truly glorious.

It has 13 drivers inside, and it offers a 5.1.4 experience. Unless you hear it, there is no point in describing how good it is. And you also need to know that it will set you back $2,499 when it arrives in May 2019.

LG Rollable OLED TV (oled65r9)

LG premiered the first rollable TV, and everyone stands in awe of this new technology. It's a massive 4K 65-inch screen that comes out of a housing unit. People can just hide it when nobody is using the TV. Not only that it's an interesting new product, but it's also scheduled to launch in 2019.

Alienware Area-51m laptop

New laptops are hardly newsworthy items, mostly because they are usually only slightly better than the previous generation. But we can't say the same about the latest Alienware Area-51m laptop presented at CES, which has a full Intel Core i9-9900K CPU.

It's also worth noting that both the CPU and graphics unit should be upgradable, which is bonkers. It's should by the end of January for the measly price of about $4,500.

The Wall from Samsung

CES 2019 brought a lot of stuff from Samsung, but the 219-inch Micro Led display was by far the most impressive. It uses a new technology that allows customers to build the display in any shape they want, and to expand it even further than the initial size.

While the price wasn't revealed, The Wall should be available in 2019, also marking the introduction of a new type of technology, the Micro Led display.

Nvidia BFGD and the HP Omen X Emperium

These two are bundled together for one reason. The HP Omen X Emperium 65 is the only display built with Nvidia's new technology right now (other will arrive shortly.)

Nvidia BFGD is a new technology that should allow us to get massive displays with monitor qualities, and that's actually difficult to achieve. The HP Omen X Emperium 65 has Nvidia Shield integrated, 4K HDR support, G-Sync, and runs at 144Hz. It also costs $5,000.

R-Pur Nano

Not everything that was presented at CES 2019 had a display or operating system. The R-Pur Nano is a new breathing mask that is supposed to be able to filter nanoparticles, and it's aimed at people using bikes and bicycles in high-density traffic.

Razer Raptor

Razer made a lot of people happy with the launch of their first gaming monitor. It's a 27-in monitor with great specs, excellent cable management, and of course a Chroma-enabled stand. It's exactly what was missing on a desk if you already have a keyboard, a mouse, headset, or speakers from Razer.

AfterShokz Xtrainerz

Just looking at the name doesn't reveal anything. These are bone-conducting headphones that are water-proof and are aimed at people that want or need to head stuff in the water.

Whether you have to listen to some engaging swimming music, if there is such a thing or you need to get directions from the sideline, having some speakers with 4GB of space and a battery that can last up to 6 hours is not something to be ignored.

LG 49WL95C Ultrawide monitor

While LG might have stolen the show with its rollable display, the company has other exciting products lined up at CES 2019, and one was the LG 49WL95C monitor.

It's a 49-in ultrawide monitor with 5,120 x 1,440 resolution, HDR-10 support. It's not a gaming monitor as it lacks FreeSync or G-Sync, and a high refresh rate, but the 32:9 aspect ratio makes up for it.

Nvidia 2060

Nvidia has a few announcements at CES, some of which were quite relevant, such the FreeSync availability through GeForce drivers.

The company also revealed the new Nvidia RTX 2060 line up, which is the middle-end range. The GPUs are also available for laptops, with the Max-Q variant, so we should begin to see them shortly in stores.

Asus ROG Mothership

This latest entry from ASUS is a weird one and could only be described as a combination between a laptop and a gaming PC. It uses a regular 17-inch 1080p display, but with 144Hz support and 3ms response time.

It also has an Nvidia RTX 2080 GPU and an Intel Core i9-8950HK, along with an aluminum body. The launch date is set for Q1 2019, and the price hasn't been revealed, but rest assured that it's not going to be cheap.

AMD Radeon VII

It stands to reason the AMD wasn't going to stand back and let Nvidia take all of the glory. The company announced the AMD Radeon VII, a new entry in their lineup that should compete directly with Nvidia RTX 2080 when it becomes available.

The new Radeon VII is built on the 7nm process, and it comes with 16Gb of RAM (HBM2). It's expected to hit the market at $700, and it will give Nvidia a run for its money.

Lenovo Smart Tab

It looks like the tablets are not going away anytime soon, and the companies might find some other uses for them. For example, the Lenovo Smart Tab is a tablet that docks into a small speaker and uses Alexa to become an Echo Show.

Lenovo Smart Tab is a collaboration between Lenovo and Amazon, and the result is a device that seems logical and completes a niche that we didn't know existed.

Suunto 9 Baro

Suunto smartwatches were always exciting and very different from what the competitors are offering. The company presented at CES 2019 the latest Suunto 9 Baro, which uses a new way to use, in common, the data from GPS and the available sensors to increase the battery life considerably.

Razer Turret for Xbox One

We couldn't have skipped the new and only keyboard and mouse for a console, in this case, the Xbox One. It's true that both the PS4 and Xbox One have support for keyboard, but not in-game.

It doesn't mean that it will work in any game, just that developers can enable this option for the future, and the Razer Turret happens to be the first one that will work.

HTC Vive Cosmos VR

The last one on the list, but the HTC Vive Cosmos VR is only the last one in a long line of VR devices. We only know that it comes with a new tracking system, gesture control, and 6 degrees of freedom.

Basically, it's a more accessible version of the Vive that's aimed at regular consumers, so we might see it arrive at a lower price. The first dev kits should land in the hand of developers sometime in 2019.
