Chinese company ZTE announced earlier this week a new mid-range Android smartphone, the Grand X3. Along with this device, ZTE introduced an affordable handset that will soon be launched at two US carriers, T-Mobile and MetroPCS.

ZTE Avid Plus is far from being an impressive smartphone, but that's what might make it popular with Android fans and customers alike.

According to ZTE, the Avid Plus will be available for purchase for just $115 outright. Some of you might remember the ZTE Avid that was launched back in 2013 at T-Mobile.

The Avid Plus is its sequel and should hit shelves at the Magenta carrier on January 20. MetroPCS customers will have to wait slightly longer, though an official release date hasn't been announced yet.

Disappointing display resolution, but it comes with LTE support

The good news is we already know what you get for that price. ZTE Avid Plus comes with a 5-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports 480 x 854 pixels resolution and features DragonTrail scratch-resistant glass.

On the inside, the smartphone packs a 1.1GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 processor paired with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory that can be expanded up to 32GB via microSD card slot.

Furthermore, the affordable handset has a 5-megapixel camera on the back, along with a secondary 2-megapixel camera on the front.

Surprisingly, the Avid Plus offers 4G LTE Cat.4 support for T-Mobile's network. It's also powered by a 2,300 mAh battery, which should provide decent talk time and standby time.

“The ZTE Avid Plus is a phone with wide appeal. Anyone looking for an affordable, durable and reliable option to stay connected can depend on the Avid Plus to be there when they need it.”

“Staying true to our mission of providing affordable communication to everyone, the Avid Plus is economically priced so more people have access to the latest smartphone technologies,” said Lixin Cheng, chairman and CEO of ZTE USA.
