After Lenovo and Google announced a new partnership for a Tango-enabled smartphone that should be launched on the market sometime later this summer, Intel, another Project Tango partner, confirmed its smartphone is now available for pre-order.

Intel officially unveiled the RealSense smartphone about a year ago at CES 2015, but the company has been working on making it commercially available since then.

The good news is anyone, not just developers and companies, can now pre-order Intel's Tango-enabled smartphone for $400 outright. Consumers can pre-order Intel RealSense smartphone through the company's official website.

According to Intel, “the RealSense Smartphone Developer Kit features advanced 3D vision capabilities enabled by integrating the Intel RealSense Camera ZR300.

“The developer kit is powered by Intel Atom x7-Z8700 processor and supports both Intel RealSense Camera and Google Project Tango developer ecosystems.”

Decent specs for a $400 device

Customers may also want to know that the RealSense smartphone packs a larger 6-inch display that supports Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution, which is unusual for a $400 device.

On the inside, the smartphone packs an Intel Gen 8 graphics processing unit, 2GB of RAM and 64GB of internal memory.

There's also an 8-megapixel camera on the back, along with a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. The depth camera included in the phone captures high-quality, dense depth data for 3D scanning of people, objects and scenes along with robust pose estimation.

The smartphone ships with Android operating system onboard, but no information about version has been shared yet. Intel's smartphone is compatible with Google Project Tango SDK as well as the Intel RealSense SDK add-on for Android.

Customers can now reserve the RealSense smartphone, but a release date hasn't been confirmed yet. Also, Intel imposes a one-device-per-customer limit for the RealSense, and there might be a limited number of units available in stock.
