The company is also working on a secret game

Cyberpunk 2077 might have plenty of development time left ahead of an official announcement about a launch date, but the team in charge of the experience at CD Projekt RED acknowledges that the solid reception and great sales of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt put extra pressure on the studio to offer a game that is bigger, better and more innovative than initially shown.

Adam Badowski, the leader of the company, is quoted by DualShockers as saying during the most recent financial briefing that the video game will be outstanding, but he also suggests that a lot of work is required, which probably means that the launch will not take place before 2018.

CD Projekt RED is aiming to double its size at the moment to about 800 people that will be split into four groups, some of whom will explore new ideas while a core team deals with Cyberpunk 2077.

The Witcher 3 has managed to sell more than 6 million copies worldwide, making it one of the most successful titles of last year, and it seems that the development budget stood at 81 million dollars (75 million Euro).

Cyberpunk 2077 is an important project for CD Projekt RED, but the company is also exploring a new video game format that it has not worked with previously and is experimenting with ideas that no one else has tried before.

The studio is moving from fantasy to science fiction

The Witcher universe can power more video games, but Wild Hunt is the last of the stories that featured Geralt and his companions.

Cyberpunk 2077 takes players to the future, to a universe where technology has evolved a lot and allows people to try and fulfill all their dreams while the entirety of the society crumbles around them.

CD Projekt RED has said that it plans to introduce an open-world structure and that it will make player choice one of the central elements of the game, especially when it comes to the look and the capabilities of the character they control.

Given the success of Witcher 3, the studio is probably working to make sure that the world that it creates is at least as big and has a wide variety of interesting NPCs and narratives to explore.

CD Projekt RED is also planning to announce a new title before the end of the year but is unwilling to provide any details about its genre or setting.
