The development team at CD Projekt RED has been very happy with the reception and the sales generated by The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, but it seems that the studio is determined to make the second and final expansion memorable for the fan community by delivering a story that's actually better than one of the core releases.

The information comes from an article on the Italian version of Eurogamer, which quotes Jakub Szamalek, who is in charge of the narrative, explaining that the new setting will give his team the space to try out some new ideas and give Geralt a wide variety of new challenges to deal with.

He also once again reiterated that Blood and Wine is the final piece of content that will use the current protagonist of the series and that they want to make sure that the send-off is a memorable one.

Apparently, another character will share the spotlight, and that might mean that the franchise could have a future with another leading man or lady.

The expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt takes gamers to an entirely new area that's based on the south of France in terms of atmosphere and architecture, but CD Projekt RED has not offered any details about the story that gamers will get to explore or about any tweaks that are supposed to be made to the core mechanics.

Blood and Wine does not currently have an official launch date but should be out before the end of spring.

Gamers can currently play both the core The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and the Heart of Stone expansion on the PC, the Xbox One from Microsoft and the PlayStation 4 from Sony.

CD Projekt is aiming to focus on new projects

The Geralt power series has managed to capture the imagination of action role-playing game fans, and the open world mechanics of the most recent entry have added an extra layer of quality to the storytelling.

A new video from the studio offers some details about the development process, saying that more than 1,500 people were involved in the creation of The Witcher 3, with each of them contributing to the impressive quality of the final product.

The Wild Hunt has managed to pick up more than 200 Game of the Year awards in 2015, and the expansion will mean that it continues to sell plenty of copies this year.

At the moment CD Projekt RED plans to shift its focus towards Cyberpunk 2077, which was revealed in 2012 and has not received too many details about either story or mechanics since then.

The experience will be based on the core concepts of the tabletop role-playing game of the same name, taking players to a version of the future where they will be able to customize characters and find innovative ways to deal with challenges.

CD Projekt RED has been saying that it wants to offer a non-linear story as well as mature themes and a plot that tackles some important themes.
