Video game developer Treyarch and publisher Activision are ready to offer more details on the coming Der Eisendrache cooperative-driven episode that's part of the Awakening downloadable content pack, currently set to arrive on February 2 on the PlayStation 4 home console.

Gamers will be able to play with Origins characters Richtofen, Nikolai, Takeo, and Dempsey as they once again head towards sure death to stop the assault of the undead who have occupied a castle that doubles as a research facility and is built on a site of unspeakable horror.

The two companies state, "Massive deposits of Element 115 have recently been discovered, delivering inspired new gameplay and — in Zombies tradition — a variety of plot twists and surprises to discover at every turn."

Der Eisendrache is cooperative-driven and asks gamers to mix carefully and match their skills and capabilities to deal with the zombie enemies, and the associated bosses and Treyarch says that fans will discover a worthy successor for The Giant.

Awakening is also set to deliver access to four new maps for the competitive multiplayer side of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, called Skyjacked, a remake of Hijacked from Black Ops 2, Rise, Splash, and Gauntlet.

When the first DLC pack arrives, the first-person shooter will probably receive a patch that will eliminate some of the bugs that the community has been flagging while improving the overall balance.

Awakening will be launched on the PC and the Xbox One at some point in early March, with the same content.

This is the first time that Activision and Sony have entered into a deal that allows PlayStation 4 gamers to have exclusive access to new maps for about one month.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 will get access to three other DLC packs

Treyarch and Activision are set to follow the classic model for the series, which is designed to keep fans engaged with the cooperative and the competitive multiplayer for as long as possible, with a Season Pass offered for the most dedicated of fans.

The names of the other three content drops have not yet been announced, but they will probably arrive in early spring and then early and late summer.

Activision is also using Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 to spearhead its forays into the eSports field and gamers can now watch matches between the best teams in the world every week, with a finals event set to take place in March.

The most recent installment in the long-running franchise is the best-selling video game of last year and has managed to outpace older releases like Advanced Warfare and Ghosts.

Activision has moved to a three-year development cycle for the series to ensure better quality and the team that is working on the Call of Duty set to arrive in late 2016 is Infinity Ward.

The studio has not offered any details about its game, and an official reveal will take place shortly before E3 2016, with more details about features set during the summer.
