Video game developer Treyarch and publisher are delivering a massive new patch for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, which is at the moment live on the PlayStation 4 from Sony and should be soon also available on the PC and the Xbox One from Microsoft.

The big tweaks made to the first-person shooter are designed to improve the balance for the competitive multiplayer modes and for the cooperative zombie campaign while eliminating some of the bugs that the player base has been dealing with lately.

Gamers will be prompted to download the new patch for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 as soon as they launch the game and a list of all the changes made is offered to all those who click on the button at the end of this article.

Treyarch is saying that it has executed a balance pass in order to make sure that experience gain is consistent across all game modes and has also sought to better balance the most popular weapons used by the community and the scorestreaks.

Unspecified anti-cheating measures are also added to Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 to make sure that the playing field stays level and to deliver quick punishments for those willing to break the rules to gain a competitive advantage.

The new patch is designed to accompany the launch of the first major downloadable content pack for the shooter, called Awakening, which is going live today on the PlayStation 4 and is supposed to also arrive on the PC and the Xbox One in early March.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 will get four major DLC deliveries

Awakening introduces four new maps, called Gauntlet, Splash, Rise and Skyjacket, which is a remake of the classic Hijacked from Black Ops 2, and gamers also get access to the new Der Eisendrache episode for the cooperative zombie-powered campaign.

Another three big DLC packs for the shooter are expected to arrive this year, all of them covered by the Season Pass that Activision and Treyarch have been selling since launch.

It seems unlikely that the two companies will deviate from the standard formula of delivering four new multiplayer maps and one undead episode in each of them.

If the community discovers major bugs related to gameplay, the team at Treyarch will also deliver patches to fix them.

A new Call of Duty title is now in development at Infinity Ward, but it’s unclear whether it will introduce a new continuity to the series or will use one of the already existing storylines.

An official reveal will probably take place in late spring or during the coming E3 2016 event.

Some job listing from the development team have suggested that a new game engine will be used, to take full advantage of the computing power of the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4, and that there are big plans for a new set of multiplayer innovations.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 was the best-selling video game of 2015 and managed to generate more than 500 million dollars (470 million Euro) in sales during its first three days on the market.
