The development team at Treyarch and publisher Activision is getting ready for the launch of the first major downloadable content pack for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, called Awakening, and the marketing campaign features a familiar figure from the past of the franchise.

A new video shows Peter Stormare returning in his role as The Replacer, a character who can help gamers ignore their day-to-day obligations and distractions to have more time to engage with the multiplayer side of the first-person shooter.

The actor is well known for his unique delivery, and the ad does a good job at mixing the absurdity of the premise with his skills and with footage showing off the content that will be introduced for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 when the Awakening arrives.

The DLC packs delivers access to four new multiplayer themed maps, called Skyjacked, a straight remake of the classic Hijacked from Black Ops 2, Rise, Splash, and Gauntlet, each designed to deliver a different experience for fans.

Der Eisendrache is the new zombie-powered cooperative episode, which challenges groups of four players to mix and match character skill as they face off against a new undead threat, with the story picking up right after the end of The Giant.

Awakening will first arrive for the PlayStation 4 version of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 on February 2 and gamers can get access to it if they have bought a Season Pass.

For gamers who are enjoying the shooter on the Xbox One or the PC, the wait will be a little longer and they will get to play on the new maps in March.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is aiming to deliver four major content packs

To promote the coming content, Treyarch is also announcing that players who are engaging with the shooter this weekend will get access to double experience, which should bring back some of those who have not played since 2015.

The studio is planning to create four major content drops for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, each of them designed to deliver four new multiplayer maps as well as a new cooperative-focused zombie chapter.

Gamers who are unwilling to spend money on DLC will also get regular updates that will improve the balance of the title and will eliminate the remaining bugs that the fans discover.

A new Call of Duty video game is already being created by Infinity Ward and will be offered for the PC, the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 before the end of this year, probably in November.

The involved companies have not yet offered any details about its setting or its core mechanics, but more information will probably arrive in later spring or just before E3 2016.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 was the best-selling title of last year and Activision will be aiming to deliver the same performance this year while also finding new ways to expand the audience for the entire series.
