Studio is working with community on balance tweaks

It's impossible to fully satisfy a large and dedicated fan base, and soon after the launch of the new April free update for Destiny, the team at Bungie has to deal with the fact that some of the newly introduced weapons are described by groups of gamers as being overpowered.

David Dague, the community manager, known as DeeJ, explains to GameReactor that his company is not directly working to make some of the weapons more effective than others but that the amount of time the community spends with the shooter means it is much better at evaluating impact.

The developer adds, "I think the weapons designers would certainly regard a word like overpowered as a dirty word. That is definitely something they would want to iterate upon. There isn’t a strategy by which they would say 'let’s make this weapon overpowered'. Their goal is always to provide a wealth of options that they can embrace and still feel powerful."

DeeJ also says that Bungie is actively working with the community once a weapon is out to see how it performs in various situations and what can be done to make it a solid choice without forcing the entire player base to use it.

Destiny's April update adds Exotics, balances weapons

The 2.2.0 patch has been delivered earlier in the week and is designed to address the concerns of the community regarding Player versus Environment experiences by adding a new strike and more missions.

Bungie has revamped some year-one exotics to make them more useful and has also introduced some other weapons and more armor to Destiny so that Guardians can have options to choose from.

It's possible that, based on the feedback coming from players, a purely balance-focused smaller update will be delivered before the end of the current month, although reports about overpowered weapons are impossible to completely eliminate.

Bungie and publisher Activision have announced that they are working on a full paid expansion for Destiny that's planned to arrive before the end of the year, which will probably deliver a new raid that the player base has been long asking for.

At the same time, the two companies are working on a sequel to the social shooter that's expected to be launched on the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 in 2017.

Rumors are saying that the original launch was set for this year, but the two companies have pushed it back to deliver the quality that gamers are expecting from the series.
