14 DAY TRIAL // BlackBerry has recently announced that it has made BBM Video available to its largest user base in Asia-Pacific. The feature had already started rolling out to Android and iOS users, and the US and Canada were the first markets to receive the update.
BBM Video is certainly not as popular as other messaging and video-call applications, like Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp, but that doesn’t mean that BlackBerry has stopped updating the service. In fact, the company has just announced that it has made BBM Video available to people based in Asia-Pacific. This is a great move since this is where its largest user base lives.
In a blog post, BlackBerry has announced that it made the service available to users in the US and Canada because it wanted to fix any possible bugs before it launched BBM Video to larger markets like Asia-Pacific, which will be getting the update automatically over the next few days.
BBM Video is available on devices running Android and iOS
BBM Video is set to work on devices running Android OS 4.4 or iOS 8 and higher. Users don’t need to sign up or get approval to use the cross-platform service. Still, they need a BBM contact in order to initiate calls. It's worth pointing out that the feature is already available for BlackBerry 10 OS users.
BlackBerry mentions that this 1.0 version of BBM Video is part of a larger BBM release scheduled for this summer, when the company will bring new features like phone number registration, expanded message retraction for files, stickers, and even improvements to group chats.
Android users will be able to share larger videos over the network while iOS users will benefit from a feature that allows them to mute conversations. Phone number registration will also be implemented, as the feature makes it easier for users to recover forgotten passwords.
Earlier this year, BBM received a major update on Android and BlackBerry 10. Android users were thus granted the option to mute group conversations and forward messages with ease while BBM fans welcomed a feature that allowed them to browse through all images shared in a multi-person chat.
