With all the focus on the leaks associated with the Infinite Warfare installment of Call of Duty, it is easy to forget that a new Battlefield title is also set to be launched this year, and it seems that DICE and Electronic Arts are getting ready to offer fans a first look at it on May 6.

The information comes from a German website that claims the press will get access to details about the experience first and that a live stream will be delivered to the general public starting at 10 PM Central European Time, showing the title in action for the first time.

The invitation to the Electronic Arts event states, "The future of Battlefield is coming up, and you are invited to the world premiere. On May 6, we will reveal the next milestone in the Battlefield franchise. Come and meet our creative team at DICE."

Electronic Arts has confirmed to investors that it plans to offer at least a high-profile first-person shooter every year, and after Star Wars: Battlefront anchored the fall launch season for the company in 2015, this year a new Battlefield will be unveiled and launched.

There are hints that the coming title will return to its military theme after the cops versus criminals concepts explored in Hardline and that the team at DICE is planning to offer some innovative takes on classic mechanics.

Battlefield 5 will go up against Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare

Some rumors have been suggesting that World War I is a possible setting for the game, but the conflict is probably a little too obscure for most modern gamers, and the trend seems to be to focus on potential future wars, which offer developers a simple way to deliver new weapons and gadgets.

The new Battlefield will have a single-player story, but most resources will be focused on the multiplayer modes, with the release probably targeting the PC, the PlayStation 4 from Sony, and the Xbox One from Microsoft.

Electronic Arts is also planning to deliver information about Titanfall 2, another big shooter, on June 12, and before the end of the fiscal year, the company wants to also deliver a new Mass Effect, which means it will have to carefully place the new Battlefield in its autumn launch schedule.

DICE is also becoming a very busy company, given that it is still committed to deliver more downloadable content for Star Wars Battlefront, which will take gamers to both the Death Star and Cloud City while also dealing with the launch of Mirror's Edge Catalyst.
