After Lenovo announced the Phab2 Pro with Tango, it’s time for Asus to impress with this Google technology and unveil its very own phone with Tango and Daydream incorporated. Asus ZenFone AR is the first smartphone to have Tango augmented reality and Daydream virtual reality.

ZenFone AR is built for Tango augmented reality which consists of a set of sensors and computer vision software that would allow the phone to understand space and motion that surrounds it. Tango adds motion tracking, depth perception and area learning capabilities to the phone, so that it can detect the distance to objects and its motion as it moves through an area.

For Tango technology to work on the ZenFone AR, Asus incorporated the TriCam system, which includes three rear cameras for motion tracking, depth sensing and capturing images using a 23MP sensor so that the phone would be able to create a three-dimensional model of its surroundings.

The depth sensing camera has an infrared projector which measures the distance to objects, while the 23MP camera with f/2.0 aperture, Sony IMX318 sensor and OIS lets you snap images with impressive details.

This isn’t the only novelty on the Asus smartphone, though, as the device can also be paired with Google’s Daydream View headset and controller for immersive virtual reality experiences.

As such, the ZenFone AR comes with a 5.7-nch Super AMOLED display that has 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution for enhancing your Daydream VR experience, as well as a 79% screen-to-body ratio so that bezels wouldn’t be a problem. Corning Gorilla Glass 4 coating protects the screen against drops and scratches.

In order to support Tango and Daydream VR, the smartphone was equipped with the powerful Snapdragon 821 processor built on the 14nm process and coupled with Adreno 530 graphics processing unit.

Moreover, it’s the world’s first smartphone with an impressive 8GB of RAM and it incorporates a vapor cooling system that makes sure its components don’t overheat. Sony has included the SonicMaster 3 technology on the phone, which adds more volume, quality, and audio effects.

ZenFone AR will be made available in the second quarter of 2017, but pricing and availability have yet to be revealed.
