Apple’s believed to be working on a new device that could make it easier to keep track of the items that are easily lost, such as car keys.

The new product is essentially a Bluetooth tracker, and it would technically pair with an iPhone and provide several means of determining its location right from the smartphone.

And according to a 9to5mac discovery, iOS 13.2 already includes references to this Bluetooth tracker.

At this point, this product is being referred to as AirTag, but it’s not yet known if this is the name the company wants to use for global markets.

Bluetooth support

However, as per the cited source, AirTag will be supported by the Find My app and make it easy for users to locate any item that the Bluetooth tracker is attached to.

Interestingly, AirTag might not come with rechargeable batteries, but instead feature support for replaceable units. A video called BatterySwap and hiding in the latest iOS update seems to suggest that users will be allowed to change the product’s batteries, most likely as Apple wants to offer increased battery life without the need for recharging.

Given it’ll come with Bluetooth support, AirTag will be able to work with the majority of Apple devices, including here not only iPhones, but also iPads and Macs. There’s also a chance that Apple will develop an Apple Watch application to locate items right from the wrist without the need for opening the iPhone app.

For the time being, there are a lot of unknown details, and one of them is when AirTag could see daylight. Apple is expected to introduce the new iPhone SE 2 in March 2020, so there’s a chance that the unveiling could also include several other announcements, possibly for the AirTag as well.
