Apple’s new-generation iPhone SE could be announced in March 2020, according to a reliable Apple analyst.

The Cupertino-based tech giant will being manufacturing iPhone SE 2 as early as January, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who has an excellent track on Apple scoops, claims in a new note to investors.

The public launch of the device could happen approximately two months later, and Kuo says he anticipates between two and four million sold units per month. This means iPhone SE 2 could sell in similar numbers with the original model.

Cheapest new iPhone

iPhone SE 2 is specifically supposed to represent a more affordable upgrade option for customers still holding on to models like iPhone 6. The device is likely to land with a $399 starting price, which makes it the cheapest new-generation iPhone.

At this point, the most affordable version is iPhone 11, which in the United States starts at $699, $50 cheaper than the model it replaces.

iPhone SE 2, however, won’t come with all the premium upgrades available on its more expensive siblings. The device is likely to be based on the iPhone 8, which means it’ll boast a 4.7-inch LCD screen without a notch and Face ID, but sporting a home button and Touch ID.

On the other hand, latest-generation hardware will still make its way to iPhone SE 2, and this includes Apple’s A13 processor, the same chip that is currently being used on iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro. The camera would be a single-lens configuration like on iPhone 8, but on the other hand, an updated antenna design with Liquid Crystal Polymer is very likely.

iPhone SE 2 will come with just 3 GB RAM and lack more premium upgrades like wireless charging, according to the same analyst.
