The retirement was announced earlier this year

We’ve known for a while that Amazon Drive was going away, but now Amazon has started emailing users that the service would be killed off in late 2023.

Furthermore, the company is directing users to an FAQ page where they can get more information about what’s happening, telling them that absolutely all users worldwide would be impacted.

Worth knowing is that the Amazon Drive app has already been removed from the App Store and the Google Play Store in late October, and beginning in January, the company will block uploads from the Amazon Drive website.

Of course, your files will continue to be available, though everything will be removed on December 31, 2023 when Amazon completely retires the service.

“Beginning December 31, 2023, files stored on Amazon Drive will no longer be available to customers. We understand that content saved on Amazon Drive is very important to our customers. We will communicate our plan to remove or delete files prior to December 31, 2023 and provide sufficient time for customers to save their files. Customers are encouraged to use Amazon Photos to access photo and video files to use the Amazon Drive website to download and store all other files locally (or with another service) before December 31, 2023,” Amazon explains.

Needless to say, while Amazon Drive is going away, the parent company hopes most people would switch to Amazon Photos, which will continue to live on and become the company’s main focus in the cloud storage services business.

“Customers are encouraged to use Amazon Photos to access photo and video files and to use the Amazon Drive website to download and store all other files locally (or with another service) before December 31, 2023,” the company says on the FAQ page.
