14 DAY TRIAL // Today seems to be all about the Galaxy S8. Just a few hours after clear renders and a video of the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus surfaced online, a live image of the upcoming phone appeared on China’s social network Weibo.
The image was spotted by TechTastic and claims to portray the Galaxy S8. While we can’t be 100% sure it shows the upcoming flagship, we do notice that the picture is in line with previous rumors and renders. Take the information with a grain of salt, but do consider the fact that it could very well be the real deal.
The picture clearly shows the 3.5mm headphone jack at the bottom, the speaker grill and the USB Type-C port. Unfortunately, it only reveals the bottom half of the phone and only the front panel. It would have been interesting to see the top side and the rear of the smartphone.
No on-screen capacitive navigation buttons in sight
Nonetheless, this could be the first picture of a working Samsung Galaxy S8 smartphone, as the device is shown running an app, perhaps the Weibo app. Samsung has decided to remove the physical home button on the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus, and interestingly enough, we don’t see any on-screen capacitive navigation buttons.
The display of the phone seems to be dual-edge, but there’s no way of telling if this is the Galaxy S8 or the Galaxy S8 Plus, considering that the two phones are said to differ only in terms of screen size. There’s not much more we can gather from the photo, aside from the fact that the Samsung logo isn’t placed at the bottom. The picture is in line with the image leaked by Evan Blass a few days ago, while this one does seem to portray a gold variant of the Galaxy S8.
Hopefully, Samsung will clear at least the confusion regarding the phone’s design during the one-minute video screening portraying the Galaxy S8 during MWC 2017.
