Sony is still one of the top players in the smartphone market, but the company has been seeing lower sales in the mobile department for quite a few years now. Still, last year’s Xperia X series has made quite an impression on the market, offering advanced specs based on consumer needs.

Now, Sony is preparing for this year’s launches and it seems that an image of the upcoming Xperia X has leaked online. GizmoChina came across the picture that portrays some sort of packaging for the Xperia X 2017. The picture shows the New Xperia X, but the smartphone might carry a different name upon its launch.

At this point, the specs of the upcoming Xperia X phone are quite unknown, but since it’s a successor to last year’s models, it is expected to have much more advanced features.

The new Xperia X will have thinner bezels

Sony phones are known to have quite thick side bezels, but it seems that the company will be trying out a new approach this year. The leaked image shows thinner side bezels on the upcoming Xperia X, as well as smaller upper and lower bezels.

It’s quite normal for the upper bezel to be slightly larger, since it houses the Sony logo, as well as the front camera and the speaker grill. Still, Sony could make the lower bezel smaller considering that its phones usually have on-screen buttons and the fingerprint scanner is placed on the side. Perhaps, Sony prefers symmetry over thin bezels on its phones.

Sony announced the Xperia X last year in February and made it available in Europe at the start of June. The smartphone came with a 5-inch HD display with Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 processor, 3GB of RAM and 32GB or 64GB of internal storage. It also had a powerful 23MP rear camera and a 2,620mAh battery.
