Chuwi is one of the companies that launched some pretty compelling Windows 10 devices, some of which were considered to be direct competitors to Microsoft’s own Surface, and now the firm is looking on the Android front for new models.

Today, Chuwi announced the Hi9, a brand new device that comes in the form of gaming tablet, not running Windows, but Android 7.0 Nougat.

The new Chuwi Hi9 will come with an 8.4-inch display with a resolution of 2560x1600 pixels with 2.5D glass, which should make it very comfortable when held in hand. This is obviously an essential part of a gaming tablet since the idea is to hold it tight when playing games, though the quality of the materials to be used on the device will also play a key role.

Tech specs

Power comes from an MTK 8173 Quad Core CPU (64-bit quad-core with 1.9Ghz turbo frequency) paired with a PowerVR GX6250 GPU chipset and 4GB RAM. There’s 64GB internal storage, but you can another 128GB with a microSD card should you need it – and the chances are that you’re going to need it since it’s a gaming tablet we’re talking about here.

The Chuwi Hi9 will come with a 5,000 mAh battery and offer several connectivity options, including a 3.5mm headphone jack and a microUSB connector.

It’ll be interesting to see if Chuwi also plans to offer an update to Android 8.0 Oreo at some point in the future, but we’ve reached out to the company to ask about this and we’ll update the article when an answer is offered.

No specifics on the price tag have been announced just yet, but more information should surface later this month when the device goes on sale. Don’t expect it to be very expensive though, as Chuwi has often managed to mix decent hardware with attractive price points, so I’m betting on a $200 price tag for the Hi9.
