14 DAY TRIAL // One of the most recent entry-level Android smartphones launched by Samsung, the Galaxy J3, is about to make the jump overseas after being initially released in China.
We reported last month that Samsung Galaxy J3 was quietly launched in China where it appeared on the company's official website. Unfortunately, we did not have any info on the price at that time, and we don't have any now that we know the smartphone will come to the United States.
According to a new report coming from Venture Beat, Samsung plans to release the Galaxy J3 in the United States where it will be available from two major carriers: AT&T and Sprint.
Since this is a low-end smartphone that will probably cost less than $200, there's a high chance that both carriers will offer the Galaxy J3 on prepaid. Obviously, customers will also be able to grab it for the upfront price.
In fact, according to the cited source, Samsung Galaxy J3 will be available on contract at both AT&T and Sprint, while Cricket, Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile will offer the smartphone on prepaid, so there will be plenty of options.
The US model comes with more storage, but lower camera combo
Customers looking for a cheap smartphone will be pleased to know that Samsung Galaxy J3 comes with Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system right out of the box. Don't expect Android 6.0 Marshmallow to be released for this device, though.
Under the hood, the Galaxy J3 employs the services of a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor coupled with 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory that can be expanded up to 64GB via microSD card slot.
Keep in mind that the Chinese model comes with only 8GB of storage and microSD card slot, but the US version has been beefed up a bit.
Also, the smartphone sports a 5-inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720p) resolution.
The Galaxy J3 offers 4G LTE support and packs a 5-megapixel camera in the back, along with a 2-megapixel camera in the front and a 2,600 mAh battery inside.
