Windows 7 users upgrading to Windows 10 certainly miss Aero Glass effects, even though Microsoft has more or less tried to prevent this with other visual tweaks to the OS.

But those who want to make the transition smoother can always turn to third-party software, and the simply called Aero Glass app is basically all they need to have the familiar Windows 7 visual effects in Windows 10.

An update that the app received today makes Aero Glass fully compatible with Windows 10 Anniversary Update (build 14393), so if you’re still running the stable version of the OS, and you’re not part of the Windows Insider program, this little tool should really come in handy.

Not working on Creators Update just yet

Currently at version 1.5.2 for Windows 10 Anniversary Update, Aero Glass comes with a series of improvements that won’t tell much to the average Joe, such as updates to the essential DLL files to get the glass frame on Modern apps as well. There are also some fixes in this new version, as well as other improvements that should provide a smoother experience for Windows 10 users.

Unfortunately, Aero Glass does not seem to work on Windows 10 Creators Update preview builds right now, but it goes without saying that future updates should add support for this new version too. On the other hand, if you still stick with the stable version of Windows 10 and want Aero back, the program is really worth a try.

At the same time, as we’ve told you earlier today, Microsoft is also working on bringing back part of the Aero suite in a future OS update, including the blur effect. This won’t happen overnight, though, and there are rumors that the blur effect in universal apps would return in the Redstone 3 update due in the fall.

For the moment, third-party apps are your best option when it comes to using the Aero Glass effects on a Windows 10 computer, so give this little tool a try to see what it’s up to.
