The joke that Adele is single-handedly saving the music industry is becoming reality: last Friday, the British songbird dropped her “comeback” single, “Hello,” from the album “25.” It’s breaking record after record already.

The other day, figures showed that “Hello” became the most watched video on VEVO within 24 hours of release, taking down Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood” from the top position: 25 million views vs. 20.1 million views.

Today, Adele can boast of 2 more impressive accomplishments: Billboard says that “Hello” sold 450,000 downloads in the first 48 hours in the US, and 118,000 in the UK. The current number 1 in the US is Flo Rida with “Right Round,” with 636,000 downloads, so Adele will probably top him by the week’s end.

Then, ATRL says that Adele is the ultimate Queen of Spotify too, after “Hello” was played over 5 million times in the 24 hours since release.

An even bigger accomplishment is that Adele’s “25” album is already registering record pre-sales, even though it won’t be out until November 20. At this point, Adele could choose not to promote the material at all, and she’d still have a smash hit on her hands because anticipation for it is through the roof.

But promote it, she will: she’s been confirmed as musical guest for Saturday Night Live on November 21, with Matthew McConaughey as host. On November 2, she will tape an interview with BBC One with Graham Norton, for a 1-hour special called “Adele at the BBC.”

To end this on a less serious note, with “Hello,” Adele probably managed to make the flip phone fashionable again.
