Adele beats Taylor Swift's record for most VEVO views in 24 hours with the video for "Hello"

On Friday, Adele released her first single and official music video in a very long time, “Hello” from the upcoming album “25.” Within 24 hours, the video broke the record for most views within that timeframe, taking the crown from Taylor Swift and her star-studded “Bad Blood.”

The Telegraph notes that Adele’s video reached 25 million views on YouTube within 24 hours, while Taylor’s “Bad Blood” reached 20.1 million views in the same period, when it was released in May this year, during the Billboard Music Awards 2015.

But there’s something about the way both performers achieved this that indicates that Adele’s album is about to become the biggest release of the year: while Taylor did heavy promotion for the release and enlisted the help of all her famous friends for guest appearances in the video, Adele barely moved a finger.

At the time “Hello” came out, the only promotion she’d done for the album included 3 Instagrams, one post on Facebook and one interview with BBC, which aired before the debut of the song.

Comparatively, that’s a drop in the ocean, and no other pop star would probably get away with it, except maybe Beyonce, who pulled a similar stunt when she dropped the album “Beyonce” in the dead of the night, without as much as a word in advance.

This detail couldn’t have escaped fans, who took to Twitter to crack jokes. This is the face Taylor made when she lost to Adele for Best Song at the 2013 Golden Globes. Do you think she’s feeling something similar now?
