Zynga has recently announced that “Words with Friends,” one of the most popular multiplayer word games for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, will be available on the Android platform later this month.

According to the developer, “Words with Friends” for iOS has over 10 million users and the company plans to double the number by making it available for Android.

Zynga is dedicated to making its games available anytime and on any device regardless of platform,” said David Ko, senior vice president of Mobile for Zynga.

Bringing Words With Friends to Android means our players will have the ability to play and engage with even more of their friends and family wherever they are and whenever they want,” continued David Ko.

Zynga has recently shifted its focus from the iOS platform to Android, as the company launched its critically acclaimed play-chips Poker game a month ago. Zynga Poker is one of the most popular Texas Hold'em game on Facebook with more than 375,000 concurrent users at any given moment, the developer claims.

The company officially announced that it had begun developing applications for Google's mobile operating system since November 2010.

Apparently, “Words with Friends” will be cross-platform, meaning it will allow players on Android and iOS devices to play against friends, family and random opponents regardless of their device's operating system.

However, the features will be the same on both platforms, including the ability to play up to 20 simultaneous games at a time, in-game chat and push notifications.

Zynga officials said that the Android version of “Words with Friends” game would land in Android Market as a free download later this month, but no certain date has been specified.

In addition, the company is expected to offer an ad-free premium version, as well.
