But a distant one

A lot of eyes have been cast upon Metal Gear Solid these past couple of years, but this is not the only popular franchise Kojima Productions has. During August's GamesCom the official European PlayStation blog listed an entry with Hideo Kojima regarding future plans. Among the other things mentioned, the game designer showed some real interest in resurrecting the Zone of the Enders. But whether he'll actually get his wish or not still remains to be seen, as there are a lot of things on his plate right now.

"Actually, we do love [Zone of the Enders] as well," Kojima commented on a fan-submitted question about the PlayStation 2 mecha-fighter. "However, Kojima Productions has a long list of things that we want to bring out – and of course Zone of the Enders is one of the [games] on the top of the list," he added.

So basically, the will is there, all that they need now is the time, and either finish their other titles sooner or squeeze this one in somewhere in the schedule. The best solution would be the first, since the second would just cramp their space and would ruin not just the game itself, but the other ones as well. So if there is going to be a new Zone of the Enders, it won't be coming anytime soon.

Currently, Kojima Productions is working on quite a large number of titles. True, they're mostly Metal Gear Solid games, but that doesn't change the fact that they're a lot and they'll take plenty of time to complete. Metal Gear Solid: Rising on Xbox 360 and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker for the handheld take priority over the Enders, but there's another game that could prove to be the final nail in the Zone's coffin. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow plans to resurrect the famous franchise and bring a brand-new title to it. If fans were asked what they would prefer, a Castlevania or Zone of the Enders game, it would probably turn out to be a close match, one that the mecha-fighter had better avoid.
