Mountain View-based Internet giant Google has just made available for download for users of an Android-based mobile phone a new iteration of their YouTube mobile app, one that can be found in the Android Market, namely version 2.1

The new app flavor sports a nice range of enhancements, including a full screen UI, or the possibility to receive subscription updates.

One of the most important changes that Google included with the new software solution was to make it available via the Android Market, and not tied to the Android platform.

“Today the latest YouTube app, version 2.1, is available on the Android Market, so YouTube app updates aren’t tied to Android OS releases anymore. The app was rebuilt from the ground up to mirror the YouTube desktop experience and is our fastest, most intuitive YouTube mobile app to date,” Google says.

The software solution can be downloaded and used on all handsets running under Android 2.2 Froyo or Android 2.3 Gingerbread, the company adds.

The changelog for the new YouTube 2.1 app includes:

- In-page playback: you can read the video description, browse related, rate or flag videos without having to interrupt video playback. - Posting comments: you can post a comment while the video is playing, just like on the desktop website. - Subscription updates: we've made it easier to access new videos from your subscriptions. If you are signed into your account, you will see all your subscription updates right on the home screen of the app. - New full-screen UI: To enter full-screen mode simply rotate the phone. The new player controls make it easier to seek within the video, and you can pause or resume the playback by just tapping on the screen.

According to Google, the new application includes some improvements based on user feedback on what a YouTube software solution for the Android platform should include.

Those interested in installing the new YouTube 2.1 app should search for it in the Android Market, provided that they own a device based on Android 2.2. The new Nexus S with Gingerbread would have the application pre-installed.
